$2,295,000 Paid for Co-op at 176 East 71st Street

A couple already living in another co-op apartment at 176 East 71st Street (the ‘Townsend House’) sold their high-floor 2 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath apartment for $2,295,000. The 93 unit cooperative is located on the southwest corner of East 71st Street and Third Avenue in the heart of Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

The sellers were Phillip Shefter and Alison Ginsburg Shefter.

The buyers are Alan Ulan and Bonnie Nitzberg Ulan.

Corcoran brokers Robert Browne, and the mother-daughter duo of Maria Pashby and Joanna Pashby, had the listing this for this 5 1/2 room apartment that was originally listed with an asking price of $2.475 million.

They pitched the apartment as having had an “extensive” and “[s]tunning renovation by top designer Jose Solis Betancourt.

Building amenities reportedly include a doorman, concierge, gym, new laundry rooms, storage facilities and a garage (although it’s unclear whether there is a waiting list for these last two).

At the time their 2005 wedding announcement was published in the New York Times, Shefter was a Vice President at Goldman, Sachs “manag[ing] large individual investment portfolios in the private wealth management group.” Ginsburg Shefter was a Producer at CNN for “Paula Zahn Now” before the show ended last summer.
